"Do you think people who haven't done horrible things will still go to hell?"

I received this question from a coworker and they said I can share it on here and discuss it!

So the short answer is it depends...Salvation doesn't hinge on keeping the law or not, but on Jesus who never sinned, yet paid the penalty of sin for us on the cross. The following verses from John show how the way to get to heaven and be in God's presence forever is through Jesus:

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:5‭-‬6 ESV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."

John 3:16‭-‬17 ESV

These following verse from Romans describe how everyone is a sinner and deserving eternal damnation since all have sinned and the penalty of sin is death. The only hope we have for salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. So while we as fallen humans living in a falling world like to compare sins to either exhault or condemn ourselves and oneaother, the standard for God is a lot more straight forward;Jesus. Do you have Him, or not?

"But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. "

Romans 3:21‭-‬26 ESV

"because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. "

Romans 10:9‭-‬10 ESV

I hope these verses and the explanation helps answer this question! Feel free to as more questions and put comments related to salvation down below!

Blessings,

Joe
